Chinook Season, Kitimat BC

Living locally here in Kitimat gives us an opportunity to drift the river when conditions are adequate. This time of year the fishing on the river is slow as the spring runoff turns the river into chocolate and freshens things up. This is also a time for the Chinooks to run from the saltwater to the areas of the river they were once reared.

During this spring runoff we do get a few chances to chase these brutes and at times the river drops for a few days and cleans up and that is the time we drift the river. We spent 3 days on the river and 2 of the 3 days we hooked Chinooks. The nice thing about this time of year is that all the Salmon are chrome fresh and as you can see in the photo attached this one is as silver as your going to get.

As the ball cap on Mike’s hat says “Get R Done” the result says it all. River conditions the past few days have been extremely high water levels and log jams are moving all over the place. Day time temperatures are in the mid 20s so we will fishing the Saltwater the next week or so.

With bookings for the Salmon season filling up we have limited space so please book your adventure early.
