Trout Patterns:
There are two types of trout stocked in Lake Eugenia, Speckled Trout and Rainbow Trout. There may also be some resident Brown Trout in the lake which entered the lake from the nearby Beaver River. There are two methods to fishing on Lake Eugenia for trout, trolling with small spinners and spoons, or shore fishing. The dam on the West end of the lake is a excellent place to shore fish for trout, since it gives direct access to the deepest waters of Lake Eugenia. You can drive right to it and park below it.There is a set of steel stairs right up to it. When you hit the top of the stairs the dam is on your left, turn to the right and walk 20-30 paces and then get comfortable and enjoy. Still fishing with a blown up dew worm is best. Use a small trout hook and a couple of small split shot and cast straight out as far as you can cast. Let it settle and then take in most of your slack and lock your bail. As soon as your line goes tight, set the hook.
This is the best spot all year as there is a weed bed here. Now in the mid summer months also try closer to the dam with a worm or minnow under a bobber. Set the bobber about 6-8 feet from bait. A slip bobber works best, and only fish 15-25 feet from shore. You will catch bass, perch, rock bass, speckled trout and rainbows here. If you have kids take them also because in summer they bite as fast as you can re-bait. The good fishing for the trout is Opening day to end of june. I have caught many 3-4 pound bass, a 6lb Rainbow and a 3 pound speck. I have been told that there have been 10 lb Bows and 7 lb Specks caught.
There is a public dock. My advice would be make a day trip and fish from shore you won't be sorry, but go in may-june. The lake is located on Grey road 13. It is near Flesherton and Owen sound. |
